The Savannah MSA added 24,600 net new jobs from year-end
2002-2007, for an average of approximately 5,000 jobs per year. This five-year
change was 18% – almost double the 10.7% increase that occurred from
2000-2005. Though year-to-year
employment counts from October 2007 to October 2008 show the employment picture
cooling, the Savannah
area has fared well compared to other metropolitan areas.
Preliminary data suggests that some industries have continued to generate new jobs during this period (state and local government +700, retail +300, education and health services +200).
